Ferry Connection with Tarfaya
The local government of Tarfaya in Morocco, together with the president of the Fuerteventura Cabildo, the Mayor of Puerto del Rosario and the chamber of commerce have vowed to “overcome every obstacle” to get the ferry between Tarfaya, on the African mainland, and Puerto del Rosario up-and-running in the coming months. A short-lived ferry service connected Fuerteventura with Tarfaya between December 2007 and April 2008, when the vessel ran aground on a sand bank shortly after leaving Tarfaya. Since then, a new agreement has been put in place to restart the service when work to extend and deepen Tarfaya port are carried out – and these works are now nearing completion.

Betancuria wants to remove barrier to Morro Velosa
Betancuria Council has asked for the barrier that blocks access to the Mirador de Morro Velosa to be removed. The barrier is down when the interpretive centre is closed – all day Sunday and Monday and before 10am and after 6pm every other day. This closure leads to a dangerous build up of parked cars on the bend in the road, as visitors have to park there and walk up to the viewpoint.
