Jandia Golf Course, Fuerteventura
Jandia Golf, Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura is a great year-round destination for golfers. Sunshine hours in abundance, less rainfall than the more westerly Canary Islands of Gran Canaria and Tenerife and the challenging trade winds (love it or hate it, it certainly makes the game interesting). And when you’re not out on the course, there are more beaches than on any other Canary Island, plenty of water sports, cycling and hiking on offer, as well as all of the benefits of being in a tourist destination that is open 12 months of the year.

Caleta de Fuste

Less than 10Km from the airport is the tourist resort of Caleta de Fuste, which has two 18 hole courses. This area is favoured by golfers, given the short distance between the two courses and their proximity to the airport. If you get an early-enough flight over, you can be on the course by the early afternoon.

Fuerteventura Golf Club

This course was designed by Juan Catarineu in 2002 with a focus on one thing the island has plenty of, wind! One bragging right of the club is that The Spanish Open was played here in 2004. Special rates are available for guests of the Elba hotels, of which there are three in Caleta, one being the adults-only 5 star Elba Palace Golf & Vital Hotel.
Facilities Include:
18 Holes
Driving Range
Putting Green
Chipping Green
Shop
Buggies/Clubs & trolley rental
Golf lessons/courses
Restaurant at the 5* Elba Palace Golf & Vital Hotel within the grounds

Detailed information about the course is available on their website.

Maximum price is €75 for 18 holes (€45 for for residents of the Canary Islands).

Salinas de Antigua Golf Club

The course was designed by double world champion Manuel Piñero and is located just next door to the more established Fuerteventura Golf Club.
Facilities Include:
18 Holes
Driving Range
Putting Green
Chipping Green
Shop
Buggies/Clubs & trolley rental
Restaurant
Golf lessons/courses

Their website offers detailed course information along with a guide suggesting both aggressive and conservative strategies for each hole.

Maximum price is €69 for 18 holes when booked in advance (rack rate of €75).
A special rate of €35 for residents of the Canary Islands is available on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month (pre-booking required).

Corralejo

Around a 40 minute journey from the airport is the northern tourist town of Corralejo. Overlooking Isla de Lobos and further afield to Lanzarote, the town of Corralejo has a much more chilled, surfer vibe than Caleta de Fuste. The only golf course is a short Par 3, 9 hole course, Mirador de Lobos Golf, which is surrounded on all sides by semi-detached holiday villas.

Mirador de Lobos Golf

Facilities Include:
9 Hole pitch and put (with a flag system creating 18 holes)
Clubs & trolley rental
Golf lessons/courses
Cafe/Bar and Restaurant

The villa and hotel complex overlooking the course has recently changed hands and is now known as Hotel Mirador De Lobos Golf, Ananda Resort. The golf club is located some 4km from the centre of Corralejo, behind the Parque Natural de Corralejo.
Prices are €15 for 9 holes and €25 for 18 holes.

Their is no information on the Ananda Resort Fuerteventura website as yet, however their staff are prompt at replying to email queries.

Corralejo Golf Society

Corralejo Golf Society uses the Salinas de Antigua Golf Course in Caleta de Fuste as their home ground. This is a mixed sex club with competition days on a Tuesday, along with friendlies on Fridays and Sundays. The club also plays on other courses and other islands, along with hosting various competitions throughout the year. If you are staying in the north of the island their facebook page says they can usually pick you up for free – so if you are a lone player, or fancy meeting other golfing buddies, this could be the thing for you. Las Playitas

The small village of Las Playitas is a 10 minute drive from the South-eastern town of Gran Tarajal. This quaint fishing village is now dwarfed by the huge sports resort of the same name. The Las Playitas resort is used as a training camp by triathletes, runners, cyclists, golfers and many other professional and semi-pro sports people.

Playitas Golf Club

The course was designed by John Chilver Steiner, known for designing golf courses where intelligent play is more important than power. The course opened in 2009 having been somewhat reduced in size from the original design.
Facilities Include:
18 Holes
Driving Range
Putting Green
Chipping Green
Shop
Buggies/Clubs & trolley rental
Golf lessons/courses

The website is a little more difficult to navigate than others, but, then again, this is just one of the activities offered at this large sports hotel.

Maximum price is €52 for 18 holes.

Jandia

In the far south of the island is the picturesque peninsula of Jandia, which boasts some of the best white-sand beaches on the island with calm crystal-clear turquoise waters and sunshine in abundance.

Jandia Golf Course

The course was designed by the very experienced Ron Kirby and alternates long and short holes within the stunning Barranco de Vinamar. The course was unfortunately closed for more than 5 years but re-opened in September 2014 after significant investment and course upgrades.
Facilities Include:
18 Holes
Driving Range
Putting Green
Chipping Green
Shop
Buggies/Clubs & trolley rental
Cafe/ Bar
Golf lessons/courses

The course offers a number of play and stay options, in both the on-site hotel and in the nearby Barcelo (many reviews state that the Barcelo is far better).

The local Robinson Jandia hotel (the first to be built in Jandia back in the 1960’s) also hosts tournaments at the course.

The website is informative and offers various play-and-stay options.

Maximum price is €74 for 18 holes.
