An unseasonal heatwave occurred in Fuerteventura during early March, bringing temperatures into the 30s.
The island saw some extreme weather conditions during March with temperatures in the mid-30s°C at the beginning of the month, followed by torrential rain, hailstones and flooding on the 18th. The heavy rain, which was as much as 70 litres per square metre in Tuineje, caused damage to homes and necessitated a helicopter rescue near Ajuy, when a group of tourists were stranded by a flash flood.

Star Wars

After much speculation, it was officially confirmed that filming for the new Star Wars spin-off, Han Solo, would take place in Fuerteventura. The location is on the Jandia Peninsula and the camp for the production is already being setup. Disney, who now own the Star Wars franchise, have said that they will need 350 extras for the filming on Fuerteventura.

Jet2 add more flights

Jet2 have announced 19 more flights per week between the UK and Fuerteventura for the summer season, including a new connection with London Stansted.

Small Earth Tremor

A small earth tremor, of magnitude 3.4 on the Richter scale, occurred off the coast of Betancuria on the 26th of March. The epicentre was some 15km deep, and although it was felt by some, caused no damage on the island.
