3 Tonnes of Rubbish removed from Northern Coast
Volunteers organised by Clean Ocean Project have collected 3 tonnes of rubbish from Fuerteventura’s Northern shore between Corralejo and El Cotillo. Over 100 volunteers participated in the clean-up which took place on the 19th and 20th of March. Organisers noted that there was less rubbish to be cleaned than in previous years, which they attributed to increased awareness and more regular clean-ups.
Tourist Police Offices
Fuerteventura is to have three Tourist Police offices, in Corralejo, Caleta de Fuste and Morro Jable, which will be staffed by foreign (British and German) Police. The offices (which will be operated by the Guardia Civil in conjunction with agents from the respective foreign police forces) will allow tourists to report petty crimes as well as matters such as lost passports etc.
Gran Tarajal Health Centre to be expanded
The Health Centre of Gran Tarajal is to be expanded to provide services comparable to a Hospital. The expansion plan includes a 24 hour casualty unit, Radiology department and chemical analysis laboratory. The expansion is needed to cover the 32,276 health card holders in the Tuineje-Pájara and Jandia Peninsula areas as well as the huge floating tourist population in the south of Fuerteventura.
