Earth Tremor in La Oliva
A seismic movement of 3.0 on the richter scale occurred in the municipality of La Oliva on Tuesday morning. The epicentre was at a depth of 24 kilometers between Corralejo and Puerto del Rosario, close to Parque Holandés. Although the tremor was felt by many people, there was no damage reported. Small tremors such as this are relatively frequent in the Canary Islands.

Fuerteventura and Lanzarote Leaders Meet
The presidents of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, Pedro San Ginés and Marcial Morales, have relaunched the Eje Oriental (Eastern Axis) to promote cooperation between the two neighbouring islands. The association aims to confront common issues such as the challenges facing energy, emergency services and fisheries as well as coordination of cultural events.

Womad to return to Fuerteventura in 2016
The president of Fuerteventura’s Cabildo, Marcial Morales, has reassured the public that Womad will be returning to the island in 2016. There had been rumours circulating that the festival was going to return to Gran Canaria and that the current Fuerteventura government was disinterested.

Fuerteventura Tourist Board critical of Bus Companies
Following the cancellation of a flight to Amsterdam on Sunday evening, the handling company and Airport management found it impossible to hire a bus to transfer the stranded passengers to hotels for the evening. Many did not answer the phone, while others declared that their drivers were resting. Finally after 3 hours, Oasis Park agreed to come to the rescue and help the passengers. The Tourist board thanked Oasis Park for their help and said that the bus companies “valued little the work done to promote and attract tourism”.
