Two Serbians arrested in connection with Jewellery Robbery
Two Serbians, thought to belong to the International “Pink Panther” gang, have been arrested by the Guardia Civil in connection with the armed robbery of a Morro Jable Jewellers on the 8th of September. The masked thieves took more than a million euros worth of jewellery and watches before abandoning their stolen vehicle in Caleta de Fuste. Police believe that a third thief has already fled the island and do not discount that there may have been a fourth gang member involved.
Record Passenger Numbers in September
Fuerteventura Airport received a total of 421,260 passengers in September – the highest number ever recorded in September and an increase of 2.6% compared to September 2014. The Fuerteventura Tourist Board are predicting that 2015 will break all records for visitors to the island.
2 cents per litre Tax Increase on Petrol
The Fuerteventura Cabildo approved last week an increase of 2 cents per litre on Petrol and Diesel. The tax increase is expected to raise an additional 1.69 million euros for the improvement of the island’s roads.
Whale Sanctuary Rejected
The Partido Popular Government has rejected the proposal by Coalicion Canaria to create a Whale Sanctuary around Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. The proposal was backed by the WWF and numerous scientific studies.
