New flights between Rome and Fuerteventura
Vueling have announced a new route connecting Rome with Fuerteventura from next summer. The flights will be on Wednesdays, leaving Rome at 05.05 and departing Fuerteventura at 09.10.
The University of Las Palmas have presented a previously unpublished document that shows that Fuerteventura was still fertile and exporting cereals to the other islands as recently as the 1790s. Written by a French Military Engineer and commissioned by the Spanish Crown, the document describes a fertile island with fresh water in places such as Gran Tarajal.
Petition for Whale Sanctuary
Coalición Canaria are urging the Spanish Government to create a Whale Sanctuary in the waters around Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. The move follows the collection of 42,000 signatures by the WWF and the decision by Repsol to cease prospecting in these waters.
Naval Military exercises were blamed for the deaths of large numbers of Whales in Canarian Waters in 2002 and 2004.
Man drowns in Playa de Cofete
A 65 Year old Polish Man drowned on Cofete beach on Sunday. A Helicopter was despatched to the scene, where a Doctor was attempting to resuscitate the victim. The paramedics continued attempts to reanimate the man, however he was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Guardia Civil appeal for help identifying Dog Killers
The Guardia Civil are appealing for help from the public to help identify the killers of two dogs found near a picon quarry at Las Calderas in La Oliva. The dogs were tied up and then shot with a shotgun.
